The Gatekeepers

Current location: Unknown. Last seen in Nazca, Peru. The Nightrise Corporation has offered a substantial financial reward for information as to his location.

Background: Matt was 8 years old when his parents’ died in a car crash. He was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Gwenda Davis and Brian Conran (both now deceased), and taken to live in Ipswich. Matt became involved in petty crime including shoplifting and trespassing, and was eventually arrested by the police for his involvement in a violent robbery. He was then placed in the LEAF project, a fostering programme for juvenile offenders, and sent to live in a village called Lesser Malling, Yorkshire, where he was befriended by journalist Richard Cole and was involved in an incident at the defunct Omega One Nuclear facility.

Power: Telekinesis – the ability to manipulate and project pure energy in order to move objects (he has been known to stop bullets). Also, Precognition – the gift to see events before they happen (he is reputed to have foreseen his parents’ death).

Other details: Matt is the natural leader of the Five, which is often a heavy burden for him to bear. When Matt’s powers manifest themselves, he often notices the smell of burning toast – he ties this in to his experience on the morning of his parents’ death.
